Does it take being a part of the 5AM club to be a super-efficient individual?
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]I recently had my DNA tested and those of you who see my crazy batch cooking antics at stupid o’ clock in the morning on Insta won’t be surprised to know I have the early bird gene. Yes, there’s a genetic predisposition for that apparently.
As I type this latest blog it’s presently 04:37 in the morning, I’ve tidied the house, caught up on emails and prepped a ginormous batch of healthy sausage bake which is just starting to emit some scrumptious, comforting smells from the kitchen. (I omitted my usual overuse of the word delicious for a change there; if you know, you know). I can only assume my pesty over-organised morning routine is resulting in a 60% eye roll from readers here, while a small minority are sending me a virtual high five as they’ve just returned in from their routine 5AM morning run/ dog walk/ spin class (insert efficient morning activity as appropriate). Personally, I love the quiet stillness of early morning and thrive off that chance to get sh*t done with no distractions as everyone else still slumbers snug as a bug. It’s not an intentional thing though, it’s just my way; I never set an alarm, I just naturally wake up feeling very effervescent and ready to carpe diem (I know, you hate me now… I’m sorry).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]All this worm catching though does have its disadvantages too, I have the sleep patterns of an old lady. If I’m out with friends or attending an evening event I’m holding back the yawns at 8PM and by 10, I turn into a pumpkin; it’s not pretty. Everything in life has its pros and cons. I don’t really watch any TV as I’m tucked up by the time anything decent comes on (although that is a blessing; another blog on snubbing your TV coming soon) and I don’t really drink as the opportunity for daytime drinking tends to not present itself much (actually… there’s also benefits to that one as well). Well now I’ve bared all and revealed myself as the huge geek I am I’ll jump to the point about why despite my tendency to bake a pumpkin pie at 5 in the morning I still veto the 4AM overachievers club I keep hearing so much about on social media.
You may have seen the hype… a table full of #entrepreneurs smugly sipping coffee in the early hours as they proclaim 4AM is the way forward to make a success of your life. Well, I beg to differ. There are plenty of people who burn the midnight oil and achieve their best work while everyone else has retired to bed. Some people sleep in till ten in the morning because they’ve been up half the night finalising a project or fine tweaking their next masterpiece. And that’s OK, we’re all different and that’s the beauty of being in a society where we all contribute value because we have individual skills. As my DNA test results evidenced; you can’t fight your genetics so get productive whenever the hell you feel like it. Screw you 4AM club…[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
